GW2 Janthir Wilds: Exclusive info bomb on housing - decoration limits, raid trophies, day/night & more (2024)

Guild Wars – Theme Page

Housing in the upcoming expansion of Guild Wars 2 – Janthir Wilds – is one of the key features that many fans are looking forward to. But while many of the system’s special features and strengths were highlighted (such as your alt characters as NPCs, mount stables or equipment displays), we at buffed still had a few questions. And these are exactly the ones we have Andrew Graythe lead of Janthir Wildsin an interview! Of course, we don’t want to withhold the findings from our conversation with Arenanet from you!

While we summarize the information for you, you can below the original interview in English read more.

Guild Wars 2: Arenanet interview with buffed – the biggest insights

Considering the home instance and guild halls, Arenanet says it has already always worked towards a housing system. All unlocked extras of the home instance (Bloodstone Oven, Krait Obelisk Shard, Wintersday Tree, Jukebox Golem MOX and all cats) will be transferred to the homestead but will not be freely placeable. According to Arenanet, they are “logically placed together to make collecting or interaction easier.”

Source: Arenanet Resource nodes from your home instance will have fixed locations in the home of GW2 Janthir Wilds – these beds are intended for plants, for example.

There will be a Fast travel function to home through a feature called Conjured Doorway. This lets you physically place a door in the world through which you can enter the homestead and invite others. The Upper limit for the amount of decorations placed is 1,000 objects. The Limit when objects are closen was also noticeably toned down in comparison to the Guild Hall – filling a hall with decorations is something different than decorating a living room.

Guild decorations are NOT compatible with the homestead. Because the new home system does not rely on the scribe craft, but on masteries. However, guild decorations will be provided with home recipes as part of the quarterly updates. So you will also get raid trophies for the homes at some point.

Although there is no Information about other Heimstätten locations in the future, but the system is designed so that more can be added later – like with guild halls.Minis and Ranger Companions can we not place in the homeas was the case with the Zaishen Menagerie in GW1. Andrew Gray also says: “We may revisit this in the future”You can only visit a homestead together with its owner, not without his presence. There will be a Day-night cycle in the home Optionally, you can also specify whether the instance is active during the day or night. Mounts use their stamina in the traditional way and there will be no placeable updrafts for paragliders, skyscales and griffins for the time being. However, there will still be a “flight mode”. As part of the decoration tools, you can transform into a free-flying bee, with no stamina restrictions.

Original interview: buffed asks Arenanet about GW2 Janthir Wilds

buffed: For how long did you want to implement a housing system in Guild Wars 2 (jetzt kaufen )? Is it true, that there were plans going back as far as Path of Fire?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: So we’ve had a couple “housing like” systems in the game, home instances being one that came with the original launch of the game and guild halls which act as a sort of housing system for your guild which came with Heart of Thorns. One was a personal “home” and the other had the customization (decorating) options people have come to expect from housing systems, and a marrying of the two formed the foundation of what Homesteads became. So, in a way, you could say we’ve been working towards a housing system for about as long as the game has been out!

buffed: Will all the earned rewards from our home instance be available in the Homestead? As in: bloodstone cooking station, the Krait Obelisk shard, chests, the Wintersday tree, jukebox M.O.X. and MOST IMPORTANTLY our feline friends? If so, will they be freely placeable?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Yes, we made sure earned rewards would be carried over to your homestead, especially the cats. They are not freely placeable and will appear in designated locations within the map, but we made sure to group them logically together for ease of gathering or interaction.

buffed: Will the homestead only be available by physically entering it, like classic home instances? Or will you introduce a fast travel option, like for guild halls?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Homesteads will have a fast travel option called the “Conjured Doorway” which will allow you to place a physical door in the world to both travel to your homestead and invite others to join you.

buffed: How high will the limit for placed decorations in the home instance be?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Homesteads will have a limit of 1,000 placed decorations within the map. We’ve also significantly softened the limits on decoration proximity compared to the existing limitations in Guild Halls.

buffed: Will we be able to place our earned guild decorations in the personal homestead? I’d love to have a personal use for my Master Brewer’s Keg from the ‘Eldvin Monastery VIP Package’ … or what about the statues of defeated raid bosses?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: You will not be able to take earned guild hall decorations and automatically be able to use them in homesteads. Homestead decorations are a totally new thing based on Mastery rather than tied to a traditional crafting skill. But over the course of the quarterly releases we do plan to release existing guild hall decorations as new homestead specific recipes. In most cases the same trophy
items will be shared across both recipes, so for the example you gave, the trophy items earned via completing a raid will also be a requirement for the homestead recipe.

buffed: Do you intend to release multiple homesteads (like guild halls, through new expansions) or will the Janthir Wilds one be the definite home of our heroes?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: We’re not ready to talk about plans for future plots at
this point but I can say the system was built to allow for it, similar to how the Guild Hall
system allows for different Guild Hall maps.

buffed: Can we display our minis or even ranger pets like the Zaishen Menagerie Grounds in
Guild Wars 1?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Not at this time but we may revisit that in the future.

buffed: Friends will be able to decorate our homesteads, that’s absolutely awesome. Regarding that: Will people be able to visit our homestead without us? And can we limit the groups that can visit our homestead, a bit like the Siege turtle with its public and only party member access?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: It is not currently possible to visit others’ Homesteads when they are not present as the system uses the standard party instance join functionality. This means the owner of the homestead has complete control over who is allowed to join.

buffed: Will there be a day&night cycle in the homestead?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Yes there will be! There is also the option to manually
set your Homestead instance to either day or night.

buffed: Will the stamina of our mounts be limited in this area? And if not, will we be able to place updrafts for our griffons and skyscales?
Andrew Gray, Janthir Wilds Lead: Stamina functions the same way as other maps and at this time you cannot place updrafts, but we are providing players with a “fly mode” as part of the decoration suite of tools that gives you free flight options without any stamina limitations in the form of a bee transform.
