Who is the owner of BankID?
Finansiell ID-Teknik BID AB is the company that owns, manages and develops BankID. The company was founded in 2002 and is owned by seven Swedish banks.

BankID is certified according to the Swedish e-ID quality mark at trust level three of four.
Who owns BankID? BankID is owned, managed and developed by Finasiell ID Teknik AB, which is jointly owned by Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Ikano Bank, Länsförsäkringar Bank, SEB, Skandiabanken and Swedbank.
BankID is a common way to identify yourself in digital environments. You do not have to create accounts with passwords with different actors, and can instead use the same secure solution for everyone. Like showing your ID, but digitally.
This is because BankID is issued free of charge to users and the infrastructure costs are financed by the relying parties that use BankID in their services.
Only individuals with a Swedish personal identity number can acquire Bank-id.
Your BankID is linked to the BankID Security Application on your mobile phone or tablet. If you have several mobile phones and/or tablets, you can have a BankID linked to each device.
Swedish BankID is a personal and easy method of secure electronic identification and signing on the Internet. Individuals who have a Swedish personnummer (Swedish national identification number) can obtain Swedish BankID through their bank.
Swedish lender Svenska Handelsbanken AB has been crowned the safest commercial bank in Europe.
An alternative to BankID is Freja. Both can be used for identification for e-services and for electronic signatures.
How long does it take to get BankID?
Once the BankID has been ordered, it will take up to three working days before the minor can activate their personal BankID in the online bank.
In some situations you need a valid Swedish passport or national ID card issued by the Swedish police. For the BankID app to be able to use this, your device needs to have a NFC reader, which i.e. iphone 7 and later models have. The system requirement will be raised to iOS 13 in May 2024.
To get BankID, you must be over 13 years of age. You must be physically identified at a DNB office.
Step 1 - Activating Bank ID on your mobile app
Open the BankID app and scan the QR code you see on the screen. Scan by pressing the QR icon and pointing the mobile at the QR code. The QR code is valid for 10 minutes. Enable and allow notifications.
In order to use Swish to send money you need to download the Swish app and have a digital BankID on your mobile phone. You can download the app from Google Play or the App Store. You also need to log in to your internet or mobile banking service when you connect your bank account to Swish.
Just like a passport or an ID card, BankID expires. Renew your Mobile BankID before it expires. You will receive a reminder in the app before the validity period expires.
BankID is a personal electronic identification method designed for secure online authentication and digital signing. In the physical world, you identify yourself with a passport, driver's license, or bank card. In the digital realm, you can use your BankID to confirm your identity.
Open the BankID app and tap on "My BankID" in the menu at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions in the app to activate BankID with facial recognition, fingerprint, or PIN.
In order to get a bankID, most banks (except DNB) requires that you have a biometric passport and a permanent ID-number in Norway.
In order to have access to your bank account information in Vipps, your profile must be verified with BankID and you will have to consent to having your bank account balance information shown in Vipps.
Can I open a bank account in Sweden without living there?
A non-resident who does not have official income in the country can also open a bank account in Sweden, but their options will be limited: there will be no internet banking and overdraft.
The most common error is that your BankID has expired, or that something is wrong with the security app. The first step is to troubleshoot your BankID to see if it's working properly. Go to https://test.bankid.com and choose either Mobile BankID or BankID and follow the instructions.
You can link one mobile number to multiple bank accounts. However, you cannot link two or more mobile numbers to one bank account. Therefore, make sure to link such a network that you can rely on. Moreover, according to the bank guidelines, you only get messages and OTPs to the first number.
The transit number (five digits) identifies which branch you opened your account at. The three-digit institution number identifies your bank. The account number (11 digits) identifies your individual account.
Switzerland has a long history and strong reputation of providing safe offshore private banking. However, jurisdictions like the Cayman Islands, Singapore, Germany, Gibraltar, Germany and Belize are also very safe options for offshore banking.
