Does Britain still owe America money from ww2?
Other countries have paid their debts in full. The United Kingdom still has amounts outstanding from World War II and its immediate aftermath which it continues to repay on a regular basis.
The last payment was made on 29 December 2006 for the sum of about $83m USD (£45.5m) to the United States, and about $23.6m USD (£12m) to Canada; the 29th was chosen as it was the last working day of the year.
The debt was to be paid off in 50 annual repayments commencing in 1950. Some of these loans were only paid off in the early 21st century. On 31 December 2006, Britain made a final payments of about $83m (£45.5m) to the US and about $23.6m to Canada.
In all, $31.4 billion went to the United Kingdom, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France, $1.6 billion to China, and the remaining $2.6 billion to other Allies.
In July 1940, after Britain had sustained the loss of 11 destroyers to the German Navy over a 10-day period, newly elected British Prime Minister Winston Churchill requested help from President Roosevelt.
At this time only four countries, discussed below, owe the U.S. government debts of any size arising from World War II programs to aid our allies. Other countries have paid their debts in full.
- Bermuda. Total Debt Held: $77.4 Billion. ...
- Germany. Total Debt Held: $91.3 Billion. ...
- Norway. Total Debt Held: $104.4 Billion. ...
- Korea. Total Debt Held: $105.8 Billion. ...
- Saudi Arabia. Total Debt Held: $111 Billion. ...
- France. Total Debt Held: $183.9 Billion. ...
- Singapore. ...
- Brazil.
As a result, totals from January 2023 are lower than reported. As of January 2023, the five countries owning the most US debt are Japan ($1.1 trillion), China ($859 billion), the United Kingdom ($668 billion), Belgium ($331 billion), and Luxembourg ($318 billion).
Seventy five years ago, an agreement was signed in Washington for a US loan to the UK government of $3.75 billion repayable over 50 years. [1] The UK's final payments on this, and a loan from Canada agreed in March 1946, would not be made until December 2006.
UK general government gross debt was £2,537.0 billion at the end of Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2023, equivalent to 100.5% of gross domestic product (GDP).
What if the US didn't join ww2?
If the U.S. had maintained formal neutrality, Operation Torch (the invasion of North Africa) might never have happened, and progress in the Med would have come much more slowly.
After the British Empire, the Soviet Union was the largest recipient of U.S. military Lend-Lease aid, and the largest share of this aid was (mostly non-combat) vehicles.
From 1st July, 1932, the repayments were suspended in accordance with the arrangements made at the Lausanne Conference and have not since been resumed. At the end of 1964 the unpaid balance of the United Kingdom's World War II and Post-War debt to the United States of America was $4,222 millions.

Winning WW2 would require the conquest of Soviet Union and a peace treaty with UK and United States. Then Hitler would go on to fulfill his dreams of wiping out Jews, stripping Slavs of their dignity and making Germany the greatest power ever. Propaganda and brainwashing would continue in Germany.
It might have been easier for Japan to argue for a peace treaty had the attack never taken place, but it's unlikely that either Britain or the United States would have seriously entertained a separate peace. American was ready and willing to fight before the first bombs fell on Pearl.
Does Russia owe the US money from World War II? Yes, the Soviet Union had owed some money. They started paid back in 1946 and paid for while, but Cold War creates lots of tensions between Allies, so payments were stopped.
Payments of reparations started in 1955, lasted for 23 years and ended in 1977. For countries that renounced any reparations from Japan, it agreed to pay an indemnity and/or grants in accordance with bilateral agreements.
In international terms, Britain was bankrupt. Labour, nonetheless, set about enacting the measures that in some cases had been its program since the beginning of the century.
The United States pays interest on approximately $850 billion in debt held by the People's Republic of China.
Is Germany still paying reparations for ww2?
In 1952, the London Agreement on German External Debts assessed the final reparation figure at $3 billion. Germany has yet to pay off its debts for World War II. At this point, it's difficult to determine how much money they still owe after years of inflation and interest.
1) Switzerland
Switzerland is a country that, in practically all economic and social metrics, is an example to follow. With a population of almost 9 million people, Switzerland has no natural resources of its own, no access to the sea, and virtually no public debt.
Japan owns the most at $1.1 trillion, followed by China, with $859 billion, and the United Kingdom at $668 billion.
If China (or any other nation that has a trade surplus with the U.S.) stops buying U.S. Treasuries or even starts dumping its U.S. forex reserves, its trade surplus would become a trade deficit—something which no export-oriented economy would want, as they would be worse off as a result.
Why History Shows the United States Will Not Grow Out of Its Debt. The United States is approaching record levels of debt. Debt held by the public totaled 97 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of 2022 and is on track to exceed its previous all-time high, which occurred just after World II, by 2029.
