Do Your Challenges

One of the most important things to do when you start up MUT is to go through the initial challenges. You're looking for "The Campaign" set of objectives. Not only does this teach you some of the basics of football, but it also gets you quiet a few quality players to start off your team. We'll discuss the Team Captains you can pick in a minute, but make sure you do these challenges.

On top of that, EA has released two sets called "Superstars" and Superstars: Blast Off" to celebrate the launch of Madden NFL 22. These challenges give you several 74+ OVR players to stock your lineup. You can complete all of them on Rookie difficulty to get the players and then go back for the milestones rewards later if you want. This is a great way to quickly grab some decent players and upgrade your starting team.

Finally, once you have a decent team, go do the "Gridiron Forge" challenges to pick up several packs and an 87 OVR JC Jackson card. He's not the best card in the game, but he'll lock down one side of the field as an early CB upgrade.

Use Your Rookie Premier Tokens

This tip does require you to have played MUT during Madden 21. If you did, you might have completed the Rookie Premiere sets before moving onto Madden 22. Unfortunately, these are no longer available if you haven't completed them.

If you did do them, you'll be given up to ten tokens in Madden 22. You can then use these in sets to get high-rated rookie cards. If you'd like, you can use one of the players you get or sell them for some extra coins. Make sure if you're going to use them to do the cheaper sets as those are untradeable.

Which Team Captain to Choose

As mentioned above, "The Campaign" challenge set will give you a choice between four team captains once you get to Week 3 of the set. Before making your choice, you'll get to play as all four players, giving you a good idea of how good they are. These 85 OVR players are important building blocks for your starting squad, so you'll want to make the right choice.

That said, the best choice is probably to fill a hole in your lineup. As the season progresses, you'll likely replace all four of these players, so don't worry too much about the decision. For our money, Jack Youngblood is the go-to guy. We've found that there are several great early options at HB, WR, and SS, making those players a little less valuable. Youngblood plays LE, which also has some elite players, but having him in the lineup makes it much easier to rack up sacks against the CPU.

Regardless, you can't really go wrong with any of the four players. They're all decent enough when you're starting out. You can also upgrade them very cheaply, giving you an 89 OVR player in whichever position you decide to go with.

Don't Forget the Set Exchange

This is another thing that's easy to overlook if you haven't played MUT before. Under the "My Team" tab on the mode's main menu, you'll see an option for "Sets." Here, you can turn unwanted items into better cards by submitting them to the digital ether.

You definitely want to make use of the sets under "The Campaign" tab within Sets. These let you turn in your bronze starting players for much better options once you don't need them in your lineup. The other Sets take more time and effort, but you'll get there eventually.

Check Out the Market

The last place we recommend looking for some upgrades is the market. Sure, you can test you luck buying packs, but we'd recommend against it. The market is where other players sell their unwanted players, making it a great way to upgrade positions of need.

Solid players in the high 70s are going to cost you right around 3,500 coins, which isn't crazy considering how many coins you get from early Challenges. Obviously, better players are going to cost more, but this is a good way to fill early holes. Once you have a solid lineup, we recommend saving up some coins to make even bigger upgrades once new content drops.

Play the Game

Whether you want to play Head2Head or in Solo Battles, you'll eventually want to hop into actual games. There is a ton of content to do in Challenges, but you'll make a ton of coins from playing full games of football. And, if you want to try out some new cards, you can hop into the Draft mode. No matter, getting into real games is the best way to progress your squad once you finish the early Challenges.

Raise Your MUT Level

Everything you do in MUT contributes to your MUT level. This is another way to upgrade your team while playing games and challenges. As your MUT level rises, you'll unlock coins, Training Points, Strategy items, and even new players.

Most notably for Season 1, you'll unlock a Season Champion Fantasy Pack that gives you access to a pick between Junior Seau and Devin Hester. They both start at 82 OVR, but if you get your rank up to 50, you'll unlock a 92 OVR version of them, along with several other solid cards.

Know Your Quicksell Values

One final important thing to know about in MUT is how much training points different rated cards quicksell for. Training is an important currency for all kinds of things in MUT, most notably improving Power-Up Players and unlocking players X-Factors and Superstar abilities. Here is a breakdown of what different rated cards quicksell in Madden 22.
