Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is an auto-shooter developed by Funday Games, based on the cooperative FPS Deep Rock Galactic. As with the original game, Survivor is based around exploring the depths of Hoxxes IV, battling hordes of bugs, and methodically plundering everything you can wrest from beneath the planet's crust. The change in perspective in Survivor also brings alongside it a change in gameplay.

What hasn't changed, however, are the four classes to choose from during your employment by the eponymous DRG corporation. Each class has certain strengths and weaknesses, at least one of which is certain to suit your individual style of play.

4 Engineer

Cut 'Em Off, Cut 'Em Down. That's The Way!

The Engineer, with his ability to build automated turrets, is possibly the most complicated class in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. In comparison, the roles of the other classes are relatively straightforward: dig, shoot, and run. What the Engineer excels at is area control, the ability to influence the flow of enemies throughout an area and plan for any contingency. His weapons are equally circ*mstantial, ranging from those that deal electrical damage to homing bullets.

In this way, the Engineer is only as good as your ability to make the most of his toolkit. As such, the other, more simple classes may be more appealing to newer players. Of course, that doesn't mean the Engineer is bad by any means. In the right hands, the Engineer can virtually shut down all but the strongest of offensives. His Class Mods are, in comparison, simple compared to the rest of his tools, conferring an increase in experience gained with Tinkerer and a boost to explosion-based weapons with Demolitionist.

3 Driller

If It Ain't Drillable, It's Probably Flammable

The Driller is about one thing and one thing in particular: mining. His arsenal is decidedly elemental in nature, as well as being best equipped for up-close and personal encounters with the various fauna of Hoxxes. In a vacuum, you might think that this would make the Driller somewhat of a situational choice, similar to the Engineer, but when balanced against the speed with which he mines, a playstyle naturally becomes as clear as the path he can forge.

There is very little that can withstand the presence of a determined Driller making full use of his ability to melt, burn, and otherwise evaporate hordes of foes. His Class Mods continue this trend, making him more offensive by boosting the damage of his status effects with the Interrogator class, or increasing the range of his throwable weapons with the Strong Armed class.

2 Gunner

Lock And Load!

As you might expect from the name, the Gunner is a class based almost entirely around his ability to pour out almost endless amounts of firepower. This makes him a natural fit for the run-and-gun nature of the auto-shooter genre. He also has available a variety of weapons with a large area of effect, meaning his ability to deal with hordes via splash damage in unparalleled. Of course, he's not without his drawbacks.

Having such an emphasis on offense comes at the cost of his overall speed, when navigating the tunnels of Hoxxes and, perhaps more importantly, when reloading his weapons. With these longer reload times comes a greater deal of vulnerability, and after expending all of your ammo, you might quickly find yourself in a situation where you've backed yourself into a corner. His base Class Mod is the Weapons Specialist, and this can eventually be swapped out for the tankier Juggernaut (at the expense of range), and the bombastic Heavy Gunner (at the expense of movement speed).

1 Scout

I Can Get Anywhere, Any Time

The Scout is the first class you'll have access to when launching Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor for the first time, and as such is something of an all-rounder. The Scout is a flexible class that excels at dealing with the various challenges Hoxxes has to throw at you, with the highest base movement speed in the game and good range to deal with problems from a distance. This makes the Scout good for new and returning players, establishing a baseline that the other classes can branch out from.

He might not have the flashiest abilities or the strongest weapons, but that doesn't mean he can't compete when push comes to shove. In fact, these merits make the Scout the most versatile class in the game. His Class Mods bring some alterations to this formula, such as Recon's ability to dodge and the Sharp Shooter's enhanced critical strike ability.
