The Seven Deadly Sins, a band of accused warriors and self-vindicators, led by the great Meliodas, The Dragon’s Sin of Wrath himself and heir of the Demon King. He also used to be the Holy Knight to lead the Ten Commandments. Born a demon and molded a leader, it should be expected of Meliodas to possess the strength to prove him worthy of his birthright and various titles.

Meliodas’ powers come in a variety of stages, and in this article, we are going through those forms in order of strength, from his weakest up to his greatest form. Get yourself ready as we are about to dive into the hellish powers of the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath himself!

SEVEN DEADLY SINS’ MELIODAS’ POWER AND TRANSFORMATIONS

10. Base Form – Sealed

Starting off with the sealed base form, you might get the idea why this form ended up at the bottom of this list. Base forms are, let us say, “common” to the shounen genre as 10 out of 10 main characters are diagnosed with such a condition.

If you’re wondering how a Holy Knight turned out to be such a wholesome looking fellow, well it all started out with a horrible disaster. 16 years prior to the events of the story, Meliodas watched as Liz, the love of his life, died before his very eyes. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, Episode 6. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 123)

Thus, rage and sorrow began to consume him, and ended up eradicating the entirety of the kingdom of Danafor. Seeing this as a massive threat, Merlin decided to seal a large portion of Meliodas’ demonic powers to prevent him from wreaking further havoc on many kingdoms.

In this form, Meliodas is undoubtedly in his most vulnerable state, and he nowhere looks like a demon at all. But don’t let this cute sunshine headed fella fool you with his looks, this form may be feeble compared to his unsealed powers, but he can sure pack a punch! Or a swing since that would be way more convenient.

And by swing, I meant a swing of the Dragon’s Handle, a… sword, a broken sword that is just as broken as the wielder himself. However, this weapon allows Meliodas to execute Full Counter to its greatest potential. Meliodas is first seen in action with the Dragon’s Handle while he protects Elizabeth against the Holy Knight Twigo. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 1, Episode 1. 9. Base Form – Sealed (Lostvayne)

This “form” is more of a weapon-based power amp brought by the Lostvayne, a former weapon of Meliodas himself. Regardless, wielding Lostvayne grants Meliodas a tremendous boost in power, making it worthy to position a spot in this list.

The first battle against an Albion led to the destruction of Liz’s sword, rendering Meliodas unarmed. Thankfully though, Merlin, who was responsible for sealing much of his powers, has been holding on to Lostvayne and handed it back to its rightful possessor (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 1, Episode 1. Lostvayne granted an advantage to Meliodas over the Albion, allowing him to topple over the giant by himself with his ability, Jitsuzo Bunshin. To understand how much of a power boost that Sacred Treasure is, it took Meliodas, Merlin, Arthur Pendragon, and the Holy Knights of Camelot to stand against a lone Albion. Wielding this weapon does not change much of Meliodas’ looks, except he’s done with swinging broken and antique swords. This weapon gives him a magic skill of self-cloning, the clones are all capable of using Full Counter, which is already a menace of an ability by itself. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, Episode 3. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 115-116) Clone powers sure go well with yellow-haired MC’s doesn’t it?

8. Demon Mark – Sealed

Meliodas never really lost his demon powers, instead, it lays dormant within him and somehow, a portion of it can be used whenever needed. When these powers are released, a Demon Mark appears on his forehead, which signifies he’s about to put a lump on somebody else’s forehead too.

The Demon Made it debut as Meliodas had a confrontation with Golgius, who tried to take his beloved Dragon’s Handle. Only to be met with the furious look of the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath himself, Golgius however, made a wise decision to scram. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 1, Episode 5. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 10).

While it pales in comparison to his true demon powers, this form grants him a decent boost in physical strength and agility. That being said, the power is but sufficient to bypass his base limits and solidify his prestige as the most powerful sin.

7. Sealed Wrath

Main protagonists losing their control over their inner demons is a widely used, yet ever entertaining trope, and Meliodas is never an exception to it. As his demonic energies overflow, the demon mark on his forehead begins to spread over a part of his face, and dark flames course throughout his body. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 1 Episode 13. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 46)

In this form, Meliodas is the embodiment of wrath, he already is in a sense, but this is unbound wrath we are talking about. It is the demon powers in him that are under control, his instincts and fury which makes him way more dangerous than he already is.

In a confrontation against Galan “The Truth”’ of the Ten Commandments, the Seven Deadly Sins struggled against such a formidable foe. And even under the influence of uncontrolled demonic wrath, it is still a portion of Meliodas’ sealed power, thus he was easily put down by Galan. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2 Episode 5, Manga: Chapters 121)

6. Base Form – Unsealed

Finally, powers restored, unsealed, unlocked, opened at last! Seeing and talking about Meliodas struggling against his enemies in his sealed form has been absolutely frustrating. The Ten Commandments aren’t going to have such a good time now!

Meliodas, being in dire need of a more efficient powerup decided to break the seal placed into him by Merlin. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, episode 9-11. Manga: Chapters 131 to 139) Having those powers unsealed must have felt like loosening one’s belt!

Remember that Galand from before who took him out quite easily? How the tables have turned, as Meliodas used him as a punching bag for testing out his new powerup. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, Episode 11. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 135)

Meliodas went out of their fight unscathed, whereas Galan was down to the very last breath. There’s nothing more fearsome than the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath, finally in full control over his powers.

5. Demon Mark – Unsealed

We’ve seen how much the influence of the Demon Mark amplifies Meliodias’ powers even at his sealed state; the unsealed version of this boost, on the other hand, puts the fear of God into the souls of even the most powerful demons.

The unsealed variant of the Demon Mark is first used against Gloxinia and Drole at the Great Fight Festival Arc, where Mel effortlessly dispatched both. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, Episode 19. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 171, 172, 173)

Meliodas came out of the battle uninjured while his opponents, who are demons of the Ten Commandments he used to struggle with, are hanging on their lives by a slim thread. The battle was interrupted but is enough to showcase the potency of the Unsealed powers of the Demon Mark.

4. Assault Form

Meliodas’ Assault Form lives up to its name, as it boasts tremendous physical and magical powers that would render any foe to submission. May it be demons of the Ten Commandments, or the demons of The Seven Deadly Sins, only a few respectable individuals would be able to take on the assault of the Sin of Wrath.

The unstoppable rage of this form cannot be easily bested. Even the Lion’s Sin of Pride himself, the mighty Escanor who is an absolute unit, had to use the peak of his powers at high noon for him to finally deliver a finishing blow against the rampaging Meliodas. There aren’t many characters in the verse that could put up a good fight against Meliodas’ Assault Form, but nevertheless, no one is coming out unscathed. With his demonic instincts, immense combat speed, and battle prowess, this form is no doubt one of his best.

3. Base – Post Purgatory

Meliodas sure gave his foes a run for their money with powers unsealed, however, he soon met his demise and perished under the hands of Zeldris and Estarossa. This incident sent Meliodas to the purgatory where he slowly grew stronger to the harshness of such an outlandish dimension.

But we know Meliodas, right? A lost fight is never a lost war, this unconscious state caused his powers to swell tremendously. On top of that, he lost all his emotions, and broke the limits to his power, harnessing his strength to the fullness of its potential. Upon his resurrection, he turned into the same incarnation of wrath as he was 3000 years ago, feared by both men and demons.

After the events of the purgatory, Meliodas gains a familiar Black Mark, the same exact mark he had once as the head of the Ten Commandments. There are also seven visible scars where his seven hearts are located,

As his physical body goes rampant against the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas’ true emotions clashed against the Demon king in a battle for control over his body. (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 304-305)

2. Demon Mark – Post Purgatory

Demon Mark had always been Mel’s go-to power up, as we have seen in most iconic images where Meliodas has these sick looking markings around his face and body. Whether or not you watch the anime, this powerup is definitely an icon of the franchise.

Okay, back to why the form made it high on the list. You know the drill, after the base is the mark. Like his previous Demon Mark from earlier stages, this powerup makes him even more of a ferocious combatant.

We are already aware of how powerful Meliodas is post purgatory, and with the influence of the Demon Mark, all the power he’s gained increases to several orders of magnitude. As shown how he was able to go toe-to-toe against the Demon King. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 4 Episode 20. Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 331)

BONUS: 10 Commandments

Before moving on to the top of this list, have a break into the past and let’s look at Meliodas’ rather mysterious form 3000 years ago. Back when he was the leader of the Ten Commandments, and before he was found guilty of the Sin of Wrath.

There is no concrete visual evidence to properly power scale this form, however, we get the idea that this form is just as powerful or close to his present unsealed form, or post-purgatory form if we want to gas it up a little bit.

But we get the idea of how much of a menace this guy is by looking into his crimes, certainly not a good background but what else can we measure this guy’s power aside from mass murdering a clan of divinities? You heard that right, an entire clan of divinities.

Slaughtering a clan of goddesses may give us a picture of how powerful Ten Commandments Meliodas was back then, and as mentioned earlier, he was eradicating kingdoms with ease. Hold your horses though, because we are about to reach his final and strongest form, are you ready?

1. Demon King Meliodas

After all the time Meliodas has spent in Purgatory, he wound up absorbing all the Ten Commandments. Elevating him to the peak of his powers, equal to that of the Demon King and the Supreme Deity.

As the Demon King’s vessel, Meliodas’ body assimilated the remaining members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Until Ban stood up against him and traded a decent amount of hits. Afterall, both went through the hardships of purgatory.

However, the duel was never a lightwork for Ban to begin with. But with Meliodas’ emotion trying to take control over his own body, this puts Ban at a fair advantage as the Demon King had his hands full with the spiritual tug of war with Mel. (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 304-305)

Thanks to the conjoined efforts of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas is able to regain control over his body and defeat the Demon King once and for all. This form is truly deserving of the top spot as it showcased Meliodas’ strength in so many aspects.

Conclusion

There we have it, the growth of Meliodas, the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath. He may not look that wrathful at first, but this list shows just how he lives up to that title. Proving us that looks mean little to what you can attain.

This is but a fraction of Meliodas’ story, however you will certainly catch a glimpse, (if you are a non-watcher/reader of this story) of how interesting he is as a character. Each form is derived from character growth and hardships, until he made it back to his old self, with influence and willpower of the new him.
